This is such a lovely, precious book! I honestly wasn't familiar with the artist until I started researching art depicting Native Indians...and I found Howell's style to be quite endearing...with a unique "folksy" charm...somewhat simplistic...almost childlike, at times...yet, such a sensitive portrayal of our indigenous people! There's a "sweetness" to his work that sets it apart from most other artists...and lordy mercy, the detail in the hair and feathers is simply mind blowing! I'm very happy to add it to my collection! As a "side note", within the pages of the copy I received, I found a yellowed, 20-year-old clipping, from a Colorado newspaper, with the notice of Howell's death in the obituaries. It made me a bit sad to know that such a talent had passed on...however, somehow, it just felt "right" to keep the announcement with the book! Thank you, seller, for this heart warming piece of art history! :o)
So glad to have found this book that has so many of Frank Howell's art. After visiting the gallery in Santa Fe many times and seeing some of these very same pictures displayed, what enjoyment to be able to pick up this book and enjoy them at home. The history of Frank Howell was interesting as he lived in our area at one time. Great book, pretty pictures.
What more can I say. I'm a fan of Frank Howell's artwork. I have several of his books setting on shelves displayed as artwork like you would a picture. I just feel like I could reach out and touch them and they would be real. The way he creates hair is amazing.
Just love his work. This is a beautiful collection and story.
