I'm disappointed in this book. I guess I should have known one book would have trouble listings all state parks, but I was expecting more. There are only a few pages per state and when you get to the bottom of the last page for that state, it refers you to the internet for the rest of the parks in that state! I will keep it since its too much trouble to return it. Its a nice looking book and I will happily add it to my growing Nat Geo library.

This review is going to echo all the other disappointed buyers of this book. I’m sure we were all influenced by the National Geographic name. I was hoping for information on more parks but the book limits itself to a 3-page narrative on 4 parks, with an occasional 5th park for some states. After the featured parks, there is a brief paragraph on other state parks in that state but it’s limited to 15 parks.The book groups states by geographical region; New England, Middle Atlantic, South East, etc. The beginning of each section shows the map of the region’s states and locations of the featured parks, but not the locations of any other parks. I would have preferred a single state map heading each state’s section with all state parks located. I understand there are size constraints and all parks can’t be given a big spread but I was hoping to see description of more parks. Maybe a one page rather than 3 pages so more parks could be included.For state parks I’m familiar with, the ‘featured parks’ are the most popular in the state. In other words, the most crowded parks. Any photos they show could not have been taken by a casual visitor because 100 people would have been around getting in the way of your photo. I want to know more about the out of the way parks that have interesting features that don’t get the press because they may be out of the way.I do like the size of the book. It’s a good size to carry around when I travel. I do like that some parks have a map. I wish each state had fee information printed. Not the actual price because that changes annually, but in looking at websites for each state, not all are clear about what fees are charged. Some have entry fees. Some have different fees for state residents and higher fees for out of state visitors. For some state websites I can’t find any fee information at all.

Really disappointed in this book. I think the authors tried to do to much and in trying did very little useful. The very few parks they include have minimal information provided and they completely omit the vast majority of state parks. Also, the book it very poorly organized if what they have done organization. I don't see it.If you need a list of State parks look elsewhere.

I got this for my son for his cross country trip for his "gap year". He has found it very useful and sturdy. It is well put together and easy to navigate.

Good to know every each state Park details story and information about each state Park.

Great resource

I'm going with 3 stars as a sort of overall opinion rating.There's plenty of good things about this book -- Photos are excellent- Info is great on the parks listed- Each entry includes at-a-glance blurbs on key facts, like how big it is, whether camping is allowed, if any fishing license needed, if bikes allowed, etc.- Includes info on any historic event that took place there- Physical book is well-made, excellent quality.There's just a few things about it that I didn't care for that 1 of the stars off is for -- No info on disability access (see note)- Arranged by region, not state.- It can't be more than 10% of the state parks as a whole - I would rather have had a full list, with just name, location, and an accessibility/amenities/activities chart. Then maybe have a few historic or particularly notable ones featured.- Following from the above, it sends you online to look for more parks/info. Honestly, I'm perfectly capable of googling info myself if I wanted to. If that's how I wanted to do it, I wouldn't have gotten this book in the first place.Note on accessibility. I think they missed a serious opportunity here. For someone with any kind of disability, there's a fair amount of info that can be gleaned by reading the whole section of a given park. I'm sure they're quite used to getting clues that way. For example, one entry mentions most of the park is sand, so anyone in a wheelchair can generally assume it won't work well for them (w/o a special chair).I'm taking another star off for just this one subject.
