Great book. She is soon due for a new one so I hope I get a notice for that as I'd love to see the latest when it comes out, but this is the most up-to-date information you can get until she writes her next one. I benefited most from this by reading all the other reviews here as I read it. So I hope I can help someone else with some extra information as well.1) She gives you options for how to get great skin that ends up benefiting your entire health and well being. If you're super wealthy you can buy HGH shots, if not, you need to eat to keep your hormones and blood sugar in balance through what you eat and when.2) I highly recommend buying "A Week in the Zone" by Barry Sears as a companion to this. The paper book is very cheap now, especially used. She mentions him in the book and respects his research. For those reviewers and readers who found her diet too restrictive, The Zone diet is ALL ABOUT controlling insulin through blood sugar and it will give you a lot more options about how to do that. It fits her approach completely and will help you out a lot figure out how to control your hormones and blood sugar.3) I REALLY recommend you sign up for a "Diabetes Newsletter" -- even if you're NOT diabetic. I was only pre-diabetic when pregnant which means you have to watch out for life. The newsletter is so helpful because they send you weekly tips about how to control blood sugar which is the centerpiece to this woman's (and the Zone's) approach to controlling your hormones and slowing down and reversing aging. One of the pieces of research I came across from the newsletter updated an old piece of information she had in her book. You CAN HAVE BEANS contrary to this book's older belief. Turns out beans-- at least a half a cup a few times a week-- provide so much fiber and protein that it will actually lower your blood sugar, it's almost a medicine to help you control blood sugar. There are many tips like that you'll get every week if you sign up for a diabetes newsletter. When they help give you more things you CAN eat it's a real blessing.4) The book itself walked me though ALL the actual options available options --- med spas, facialists, do it yourself, over the counter products, her products and other possible products you could use. There were procedures I was considering I now know would have wasted my money and one procedure I now know is actually my only hope but I MUST be careful about who does it. Letting you know how to sort through everything available, discard what won't work and save up for the few truly important things you need to do was a life saver.5) As one woman wrote -- it's like your own private consultation. And better! You have EVERYTHING at the palm of your hands as a reference and it's the most up to date for the moment. It's been a few years though so she really is due to put out another book and I hope they'll add me to the notification list when that comes out.6) As everyone else said, the actual daily/weekly skin routine is well outlined. I'm finding a need to turn to her website to buy the products for the cheapest way to get started, I believe I'll get started on her program so I know I'm using the right products correctly before tinkering too much with other brands as I may do when I get the hang of it.I hope this works! Wish me luck. I REALLY NEED IT. I'm desperate for improved skin at this stage and do feel that Dr. Denese's advice is the best you can get from a doctor who is also a researcher and an industry insider. It's a great book and I'm so glad she wrote it. It's there to help us navigate our anti-aging journeys.

This is a wonderful book. I have many on my bookshelf on the subject of aging and skin care, and this one stands above them all. Here is why:She explains all the layers of a wrinkle, and why surface stuff can only go so far. She explains all the major theories of aging, and how each affects the skin, then she explains what diet and which supplements work and why.The interaction between insulin and human growth hormone is particularly enlightening! Who knew that a carb snack at bedtime meant an almost total loss in HGH output for that 24 hour period. Now I have a cube of cheese and a calcium magnesium supplement instead. The diet she recommends has a ton of science behind it, and happens to be almost identical to the healthy versions of the low carb diet or the primal diet. It works on skin, to repair and rejuvenate skin that has been damaged by sugar intake and metabolic syndrome which is affecting more and more North Americans, probably due to the years of advice that unrefined carbs are healthy and should be the base of our food pyramid. For more information on that see Gary Taubes wonderful book Why We Get Fat. Suffice it to say, this works, and not just for the skin. If it does your visible face this much good, think a moment about the kidneys, the heart, the arteries and so forth. Her advice is medically sound. After reading Gary's book I started her diet in earnest. It is wonderful! I have modified it a bit, using Taubes information. I include egg yolks, butter and I don't trim the fat of the meat anymore. I also read Primal Diet Primal Mind, as well as Dr Catherine Shanahans book Deep Nutrition, Why Your Genes need Traditional Food. These books put to rest any fear of fat that the last 40 years of public health policy left me with. I'm getting my energy back finally and my allergies seem to be receding. The fatigue that has plagued me for 12 years is leaving along with my belly fat, and the brain fog is lifting. What is not to like? This and better skin too!!!!!!!!I have been following her skin advice for some time. I don't have the money to buy her products but here is what I've tried that works with her regime of skin care.Glycolic peel pads. I buy the Avon Anew Clinical strength ones. They work like a charm and when you hit a good sale on Avon, it's worth stocking up. I paid 20$ for a jar full last time. My skin can't tolerate it nightly so I do it every 3 to 4, and I use a BHA product (Olay Age Defy night cream with BHA which I get for 10$ on sale at Walmart)Serums: I use Estee Lauders brown dropper bottle stuff. That is my one big splurge, but it still costs less than her products. 60$ and a bottle lasts all year. Time it with a gift with purchase and it works even better. I have neither the time or the money to fiddle around with water based and oil based serums so this one has to do it all. Fortunately it's one that I know works and works well.Night Cream: I use the BHA one in between the glycolic acid pads but I always top off the serum with Neutrogena Ageless Intensive night cream in the dark blue tube with Hyaluronic Acid and Retinoids. About 15 to 20$ on sale at Walmart.Day Cream: Olay Complete SPF 30 for sensitive skin. This is about 15$ at Walmart, less on sale!Toner, whatever I get that is alcohol free. The one by Garnier Fructis (Walmart again)or health food store witch hazel in a glycerin base. Just no alcohols. I learnt that from Paula Begoun.Cleansers: There is a makeup remover lotion from Avon that goes on sale for 2$ reg $4!!!!! Take off the worst. Or I use Neutrogena towelettes in the pale blue box. Especially good for travel or tired evenings. The other cleanser is one I got for 10$ from Avon, that comes in a red and silver tube, part of the Anew line. It works, but so do a lot of gentle sudsy ones INCLUDING JOHNSONS BABY SHAMPOO. That is perhaps the best one I've used, and I'll go back to it when the Avon stuff is used up. That takes off makeup and leaves clean skin behind, but it's a touch drying.Ok that is it. Cheap and effective.I'm 55 years old btw and have sensitive skin with a bit of rosacea and a ton of allergies if that helps. As for the advice on more medical interventions for aging skin, I'm sure they are all just as good advice but I'm not willing or financially able to indulge in even the cheapest of these. I'd rather put my money in improving my diet to improve my overall health and let the chips and inevitable signs of age fall where they may. But that diet and skin care regime will keep me looking younger than my peers. Let them get themselves a trout pout if they need, or lose their ability to smile or have expressions! I'm going for the blueberries, salmon, and a good steak!
