I'm experiencing my first black lab so this book was helpful with tips on training and giving me ideas on how to keep her interested. She has really learned to appreciate the water in the lake and river nearby.
279 pages of detailed information with NO INDEX. A good book otherwise, but you should know that although there is a Table of Contents, THERE IS NO INDEX. So, good luck finding info on "teething" (or whatever) unless you want to page through the book. This is a cheap shortcut used by publishers who are perfectly aware that they're not providing what is reasonably expected in a book of this type.
We were given a lab that was found as a stray. He has strong urges to hunt and run. It was interesting to me, among other things that this is common to labs and that it takes at least 4 months to get them acclimated to a new environment. For young and old dogs alike, this book covers it all.
Thank you to Linda for this comprehensive look at the Labrador Retriever. She's been able to gather many experts in the breed from two countries to help educate both the new people and the old hands in the breed. I recommend this book and have purchased copies to give as gifts to people with new Labrador puppies in the family.
We are long time Lab owners and are current Lab, Wrigley is #8 for us. After having Labs for a long time, we thought we knew a lot about the breed, but Linda has written a really great book that all Lab owners and lovers should keep on their book shelf. Even though Labs are an awesome breed, they are also complicated, so it's always a good just to pick up the book and learn things about the breed that we never knew before. We highly recommend this book, great work Linda Whitwam!!!
I liked the scope of the topics covered, and that the book is quite easy to read. It is not too detailed but gives good basic information. We are training our third labrador and still found new and helpful information!
This is an excellent book, concise, yet thorough account of the Labrador Retriever. It is written in a manner that is easy to understand. I appreciate the author's inclusion of advise/opinions from a number of Lab breeders throughout the UK and USA. Illustrations and photographs are very appropriate, We have been Labrador Retriever owners for 26 years and can recommend this book to both prospective and new Lab owners.
