Unlucky was like most of Jana DeLeon' s books, a great read, with unexpected twists and turns and lots of laughter. The story was well written and the characters were great. The plot was done well, and was keeping me guessing until the end. I would have gladly given the book 5 stars, but I didn't because of the explicit sex scenes. I'm no prude, and haven't anything against authors whose genre is erotica, or sexually explicit romance. I just think Jana DeLeon is too advanced as an author to waste time and words on sex scenes. I did love the book, and recommend it to anyone that enjoys a great mystery with lots of laughter.
Royal Flush, La is a community outside of New Orleans where this story takes place with a number of unusual characters and becomes the center of a sting by two different federal agencies on two different crimes at the same time. A poker tournament is set up to raise money for the casino owner, while being a source of bringing together the principals involved in a drug smuggling ring. Also the FBI sets up a sting, also at the tournament, to catch a counterfeiter. Add to this that the tournament is necessary to keep the casino in business, and his niece, Mallory, must earn enough money during the tournament to save her adopted parent's business from the the IRS. If Mallory is successful, the business will become hers and her parents will retire. Confused, read the book. I'm not a poker fan and the tournament wasn't thing, but the entwined stories ending in a twist are very imaginative. I recommend the book.
Mallory is what I would call a jinx but in this story she is called a cooler. It is not so much that she is unlucky, but everyone she touches is unlucky. Makes it hard on relationships. But Mallory is such a wonderful woman she has lots of true friends. She is about to get into a sticky situation going to bat for her true friends and loved ones. This was a great story. I loved the quirky characters in her small Louisiana town of Royal Flush. Towards the end of the book I was flying through the pages to see how it ended. It was that good.
This story was slow to develop, character development was weak, story line just never seem to come together. It was pushed as an funny, charming story, but I never found it amusing at any time.
I really enjoyed this book. I have read most of Jana's books, she makes it easy to relate to the characters. She keeps you guessing and always has a few adventures to keep you interested. This book was fun, flirty and a little dangerous! It had me laughing out loud and constantly smiling at this light hearted mystery romance.
Didn't like the language. And it was too long and I got lost interest and ended up not finish it .
I love Jana DeLeon's writing style. Her books are LOL funny. I started out with the Trouble in Mudbug series which I absolutely loved all 3 books. So I thought I would give this one a try. It is very cute and well written and researched. A couple of good LOL scenes. My only complaint is the sex scenes are too descriptive for me. I like knowing they had sex with some narrative but I don't want to know every movement made during sex. But if you are like me and skip over those scenes make sure you don't skip too far because something happens right after they have sex that gave me quite a good giggle. Overall I really liked this book.
Enjoyed this book,it was different from the other ones she wrote. This is about a poker game and all the players.
